When you’re shopping for cubicles there are a few key things to consider:
- How tall do you want the walls? 48″, 54″, 60″ and 72″ are common heights. 80″ high cubicles are also available. Tall walls give more privacy and absorb more sound. Shorter walls give a space more of an open, collaborative feel.
- 6×6′ stations aren’t always 6×6′. Most panels are 1-3″ thick, which adds inches to your layout. A 6×6″ cubicle may actually be 6’3″ x 6’6″. When you’re measuring, allow some space for this.
- The same goes for 42″ call stations and 8×8′ cubicles- always allow a little more space than you think you’ll need.
- What options do you need? Some offices just need a desk space (or “worksurface”) for a laptop or desktop computer. Others need file cabinets underneath and shelves or closed bins overhead for storage.
- Do you need powered cubicles? Many cubicles can be set up for electric where you can plug directly into outlets in the panel. You’ll need an electrician for this to pull power from your walls, but you’ll also need to be sure the cubicles you buy have the hardware you need to make this possible. This will need to be arranged so that the power is pulled before the cubicles are installed so that the installers can check the hardware for power before they leave.
- Are there phones or computers in your cubicles? You’ll need your I/T department (or a cabling company) to run your cables through the panels and hook them up to each station. Most installers have trusted resources for these services if you don’t do this type of work in-house with your own I/T department.
I’m available if you have questions about what time or size cubicles would be best for your space. Just send me a message through my “contact us” page.
Thanks, and have a great day!
